West Virginia is one of those states that is often off the destination radar. Fortunately, this means romantic destinations in West Virginia represent some of the best hidden gem opportunities in the country.
Romantic Destinations in West Virginia
West Virginia is a state made up of many different regions, each with a distinct feel. While most of the United States considers West Virginia to be a Southern state (due to the fact that most of the state is below the Mason-Dixon Line), this state is also very influenced by the north, as well as the Midwest (in the areas where it borders on Ohio). |
Primarily a state made up of hard working, hearty laborers – many of whom work in coal mines – West Virginia is also becoming a vacation destination due to the spots within the state that are perfect for outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking and more. Romantic destinations in West Virginia bring to mind this rural, mountain feel, while allowing vacationers to enjoy the natural beauty of the land.
Bluefield, West Virginia, is a small town that exemplifies the atmosphere of the state. West Virginia is the only state in the US that is considered to be entirely mountainous (it is located fully within the Appalachian Mountain range) and this town in southern WV shows much of what the state has to offer. There are golf courses in the area, as well as skiing, theaters, antique stores, local restaurants and other opportunities for day trips. Also located nearby are Bluestem and Pipestone National Parks, as well as the Cascade Waterfall in the Jefferson National Forest, and the Appalachian Trail.
Staying in Bluefield is relaxing and secluded, and the Country Chalet bed and breakfast is a perfect example of the hospitality found here. With just three rooms (situated in an A-frame house on one acre of land) the point of the Country Chalet is to make sure that the guests here (you) feel at home. All of the guest rooms are decorated with a quaint country charm, and include amenities such as a private bath, TV/VCR in room and CD player. Enjoy dinner at the Four Seasons Room at the Chalet, or book a romance package that includes champagne, two nights' stay, dinner and breakfast each morning.
The Prestwould Bed and Breakfast, located in Flat Top, West Virginia, is another great place for your romantic destinations in West Virginia. Housed in a Georgian style brick home and decorated in a country English style, the Prestwould is home to three guest rooms, all decorated in a grand antique style. You will enjoy your breakfast in a formal dining room, and afternoon tea is also included. All rooms also come with chocolates on your pillow and fresh flowers. To make your stay even better, why not add the romance package, which includes two nights' stay, two candlelight breakfasts and a gourmet dinner for two one night.
West Virginia is not yet well known as a vacation paradise, but if you are looking for a place to enjoy the beauty of mountains as well as the seclusion of small towns and villages, this is definitely the place for your next romantic trip.
